Yeah it seems to be getting worse. I agree it'd distracting. Also maybe the ability to flip on CC is making me use it more? 20 years ago if I was watching Dune I'd just accept that I didn't understand what the EFF the Muad'Dib was at first but eventually figured it out. Now when I hear a phrase like that, I'll rewind it, flip on CC, and understand exactly what he was muttering for a name.

Once I went CC, I never went back. But I do recognize that it takes away from my attention to the visuals.

Problem here is I need to put the CC in Spanish for Mayla. No problem for me, and I’ll catch myself reading them when the audio gets shitty. But doesn’t help the boy. He got really frustrated during Pulp Fiction and even Escape From Alcatraz. In his case it’s obviously not age-related hearing loss. But dependence on CCs could be part of it.
