Thanks Jon for posting it. Fascinating read, indeed. I wonder if Trump will go after Waltz for "destroying evidence!" the way he did for the Secret Service text messages about Jan 6 that were purged by the normal process. Kidding... Waltz must've shouted a few expletives once he realized Goldberg had been in the group chat. I wonder if he was trying to add some sort of "Atlantic command" instead of the "Atlantic" journalist.

Trump was asked about this 40 minutes ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/comments/1jiyxnw/trump_on_his_cabinet_members_using_signal_to_text/
Of course his first response was how Atlantic is a failing magazine, but then he goes on (and I believe him) that it's the first he's even heard of this story. Interesting to see where he is insulated from some news.

Waltz and the other Cabinet-level officials were already potentially violating government policy and the law simply by texting one another about the operation.
ZOMG!!!!!!! Will the DOJ investigate? Will the DOJ prosecute?

Are you allowed to talk about this stuff on text? (Channeling the whole Hilary server thing)

One thing I’m curious about is how they ended up adding him. Did they mean to add someone with a similar name or initials? Or was it really just a fat finger mistake? Either way they’re very lucky he handled it very responsibly.

You gotta cut him some slack since he’s a DUI hire.

I kept waiting for Goldberg to speculate on who they might have thought they were adding.

Greg Lukianoff: Reminds me of when Eisenhower spilled the beans about D-Day on MySpace.

It seems Waltz is the main person to blame for adding JG to the group chat. Others might not have thought to double-check each name in the group, although they should’ve..among many other national security communication concerns. Amateur hour.

Back to seriousness how interesting that no one expressed concern that bombing them a little harder might not work. The only concern was JD Vance worried it might actually work and that would help the evil Europeans.

On the bright side, they all sounded like the same person behind the scenes as they do in front of the camera, more or less. What you see is what you get. I'm sure this mistake won't be repeated, so that's the last glimpse we'll get of these sorts of conversations. Until Woodward's next book comes out, of course.

The DUI hire is lying about it even though the NSC already confirmed the texts as did, indirectly, Rubio and BetaFace.
He didn't tell a literal, objective, lie. You should appreciate that, jon.
