The threshold for what is acceptable these days is so far removed from what it was 10 or 20 years ago.
Remember when the biggest scandal was when a candidate couldn't spell potato, or when GWB mispronounced "nuclear"?

I am hopeful we'll get back there eventually. Watch old debates between Obama and McCain (or Romney). Heck, even if it's Vance vs Libby McTolerance in 2028, I think at the minimum Vance will be respectful, similar to his VP debate style.
