An EO I can get behind

When my son hit middle school I was shocked by how toxic the word âfaggotâ and âfagâ had become. They would talk about âthe f wordâ meaning that. No problem saying fuck.
Iâm particularly curious how/when that change occurred. Itâs easy to see us as a generation apart but there were kids every year between me and him. How did it go from ubiquitous (we said that word 20 times a day) to verboten? Whatâs the trajectory like? I guess itâs happened to other words.

I never knew it was out of favour. I use it often. Never been corrected either. Donât care either. Itâs what it is.

My daughter the former teacher used to chastise me for it. I had to draw the line there. Donât correct your father.

I donât know. My parents would occasionally say negro or colored well past the sell by dates and it sounded so cringe. I donât want to come off that cringe to my son.

Like Horace, I have always prefaced my calling someone stupid as a faggoty retard. Always posed as a question though to not deliver it as an insult.
