We watched The French Connection this week. Good but it seems a little odd in 2025 that such a movie would have swept the Oscars.
Still it was good.
I’m going to watch/rewatch some others of his in the coming weeks. Will report here.

I had the same reaction when I saw it years ago. It seemed like a standard chase movie - but I’m guessing it pioneered many of the things we think of as tropes.

I loved his role as the preacher in Poseiden. A real heroic role and the best part near the end when the party he lead went through hell to get almost to safety only to be denied, he let God have an earful before he died a most heroic death. Watching it for the first time as a kid, it's one of those movies that stick with one forever. Like King Kong, Night of the Living Dead, Wizard of Oz. Scary!!

It gets lost in comparisons to hunt for red October.

Yes, recently watched that film for the sixth? time. Love the scene where the helicopter transfers Baldwin to the boat in rough seas. And Connery's never changing brogue

I don’t think I’ve seen it.
I remember when you couldn’t board a flight without seeing a dozen middle aged dudes reading that book.

Crimson Tide is great (Hans Zimmer score...)
Enemy of the State is another movie I could watch any time.
