This time, it’s Democrats who are itching for a fight — over the Department of Government Efficiency cuts that Trump has blessed and deputized mogul Elon Musk has gleefully carried out.

LOL, Isn’t the government shutdown exactly what DOGE wants?!

This one is going to be a weird one. Neither side will budge on this unless we all get down on our knees and pray for a continuing resolution. The shutdown historically, has never been good for GOP polls. Repeating the same mistakes and expecting different outcomes is the Republican way though.

Can DOGE keep operating when the government is shut down? Is whatever DOGE does considered sufficiently "critical" to keep going during shut down?

With the GOP controlling the House, the Senate, and the White House, no "side" needs to budge and the budget can still pass.

Not sure making up 95% of their cost reduction facts is considered critical.

https://www.wsj.com/politics/government-shutdown-2025-democrats-reject-gop-plan-f4708a52
House Democratic leaders said that they would oppose a Republican measure to keep the government funded beyond March 14 and avoid a government shutdown, after GOP leaders rejected their efforts to write in protections against further cuts to federal workers and services.
and
The move sets up a showdown next week when the bill funding the government for the rest of the fiscal year, known as a continuing resolution, comes to floor. It also adds to the unpredictability surrounding the vote, given the fluid dynamics in the House.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R., La.) has relied heavily on Democratic votes to pass such measures in the past, amid Republican rank-and-file griping over spending and other issues. If Democrats do follow through on their threat, Johnson would have to rally almost every Republican vote to his side.
Johnson, who has a narrow 218-214 majority in the House, has said he believes he has the votes to pass the spending measure. He scored a major victory last month when he successfully pushed through the budget framework for Republican’s tax cuts and border package largely along party lines, losing only one GOP vote. But Johnson has also maintained that the blame for any government shutdown would fall squarely on Democrats.

I thought they need 60 senate votes for which there are not 60 Republican senators. Some Dems have to budge.

Yes if certain rules are observed budget bills don’t need a cloture vote.
