Excellent post. It's worth a read if you are serious about cutting government spending and reducing the deficit, but unfortunately those who need to read it the most, won't.

I’ve suggested before that it’s possible that Musk will put a lot of pressure on congress (and indirectly on Trump, when he sees the applause Musk gets) to prevent Congress from doing what they’re on track to do in 2025 - increase the deficit by 5-8T over ten years.

He’s far more serious than they are, not least because he doesn’t face any elections.

      Only non-witches get due process.

We’ve discussed this ad nauseum. Yes, SS and Medicare are the guillotines over our collective necks. Solving those is 1 issue that I would love to see addressed by this administration.

Discretionary spending is another issue, and belittling the savings of billions when SS and Medicare represent trillions is just as foolish and shortsighted as kicking the can on entitlements. The fact is that billions saved today are trillions down the road, so yes, I am going to cheer these savings. When we get to new spending, I would be happy to address the proposals and discuss what might be necessary and what is more waste, I’m sure there will be some that I disagree with.

In the meantime, everything else is bitching to hear yourself bitch.

Fix the Social Security and Medicare funding through its own untouchable mechanism. Tie all the total of all other funding to a %of GDP. Let the controlling party set the discretionary spending %s to their own priority. The only part of the tax proposal that’s actually regressive is the SALT exemption. The other changes may not be a great idea, but they aren’t regressive.

Most of the $ goes to extending the TCJA of 2027-18 whenever that was.

Yeah, CBO rated Harris’ plan as a little better than Trumps. But not going to convince you of that just like you won’t convince Jon that Trump’s plan will generate more revenue.

Personally, I’m worried about the deficit, but I’m equally worried about the impact of the largest tax increase in history. But it’s still the entitlements driving every thing. So drop the income cap and raise the FICA .5%

                                        That's the no brainer.

About deficit spending...Heard an economist talking a few days ago. He was all in favor of the cuts, but made an interesting point...He thought the country was so balled up into deficit spending, that an immediate blalanced budget would crash the economy. He thought it's going to take a ten-year plan, with a smaller deficit each year. That would take a major, multiple administration commitment he just didn't see happening.
