How many people work for the government?

Wish I had a chart to include full time contractors who essentially work for the federal government but via private sector contracts, (includes me) as I'd imagine that makes up the difference on the right chart.

How far down the chain you wanna go? For example, a lot of cleaning services work directly and exclusively with contractors who work for the government. Nothing they do is government-related, but without the industrial complex there'd be no cleaning company.

Yeah very true. It's the inverse (sort of) of all the expenses to the taxpayer of bringing everyone into a federally owned or leased building.

Newport News Shipbuilding has 25,000 employees, they build aircraft carriers and submarines.

They aren't government employees.
