    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/trump-fires-multiple-inspectors-general-legally-murky-overnight-move-rcna189261

    President Donald Trump on Friday fired 18 inspectors general in the federal government, according to Hannibal “Mike” Ware, the head of the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency who was also fired.

    When asked why the inspectors general were fired, the White House official said the move was an effort by the president to let go of parts of the past Biden administration that don’t “align” with the new Trump administration.

    The legal justification for the firings is murky, given that Congress strengthened protections for inspectors general from undue terminations when it amended the Inspector General Act in 2022.

    The law requires a 30-day notification window between the White House informing Congress of its intent to fire an inspector general and that inspector general being removed from on-duty status. The White House must also provide substantive reasons for why the inspector general is being removed.

    I had to look up exactly what was a inspector general

    In the United States, an inspector general leads an organization charged with examining the actions of a government agency, military organization, or military contractor as a general auditor of their operations to ensure they are operating in compliance with generally established policies of the government, to audit the effectiveness of security procedures, or to discover the possibility of misconduct, waste, fraud, theft, or certain types of criminal activity by individuals or groups related to the agency's operation, usually involving some misuse of the organization's funds or credit. In the United States, there are numerous offices of inspector general at the federal, state, and local levels;

      IOW, Trump felt they weren't doing their job.

      What's more interesting is who he left.

        I think his problem was that they were doing their jobs. Many fired were Trump appointees that had shown little hesitation to go after the Biden administration.

          I mentioned before how I'm enjoy many of the headlines as Trump doesn't hesitate to begin enforcing immigration law or restore biology to the government, but there is a growing trend of his removal of people not "loyal" to him that is concerning. Even in OPM there has been the removal of people whose very job is oversee transitions and ensure the government "HR" isn't politicized. I am optimistic this is just an abrupt "growing pain" as the administration sets down roots again, but the concern is growing.

            Reagan fired about 15, and rehired 5.

            Obama fired (at least) one, who sued saying his firing was politically motivated.

              People within the government fought him tooth and nail during his first term, often not on policy, but simply because Trump.

              Apparently, Trump can be taught.

                He is not the king. The president "presides" over the executive branch. I have no problem with Trump implementing his policy, but just because someone objects to something doesn't make them anti-Trump. Sometimes they are just doing their job. His loyalty-approach is not healthy for the government or our country, generally speaking.

                    On a bigger picture, it is frustrating that the legislation branch has become somewhat "subservient" to the executive branch. It should be more independent.

                    The recent removal of the House Chair of the Foreign Affairs committee is a perfect example of this.

                            Is she? Man I feel like a dope. I'm pretty bad at remembering where each person lives, but thought she travels a lot but otherwise lives in Taiwan. I thought this topic came up before and TG implied she knew a lot because of TNCR and international news often focuses on USA crap. What's the truth @taiwan_girl ???

                              She's an international woman of mystery who has no "home" per se. But as befits mysterious international women of mysterious mystery, she is citizen to more than one country, and she probably also has fake citizen paperwork for many others, issued by mysterious governmental agencies in support of her mysterious job duties.
