At least Costco gives you some idea of what to expect based on the store name. What a let-down my local membership turned out to be.

I find Costco to be very valuable for specific items. We have a list of stuff that’s pretty much it… ground beef, chicken breasts, NY Strips, cherry tomatoes, berries, (fin goes through the berries and tomatoes in bulk), coffee (I can’t find my favorite at other places), TP and paper towels. There’s a few other things we might grab if it coincides with being there, and if I’m in DC I will always grab a bottle of good booze, but that’s about it.

I agree with the author about sampling stuff… if I just bought big bottles of hot sauce there, I wouldn’t have discovered @Renauda s recommended sauce…

On large purchases, I do at least check their offerings. The assurances they provide are nice.

Also, here’s a little hack. Check the gas stations that are right around Costco. While they may not be as cheap as Costco, there’s usually one within a few cents per gallon, without waiting in a 20 minute line.

It is worth it for the baked goods, especially the cakes.

And, of course, the $1.50 hot dog and soda .

Recently at a Costco in Taiwan. Super super super packed with people. Two stories and it was wall to wall people. The pic below does not really capture how crowded it was.

I dont know if it is still true, but at one time, the highest revenue Costco in the world was in Taiwan (I think Kaohsiung).

Somewhat fun fact - the Taiwan Costco offers alcohol samples. LOL

Same here, we go about once a month and have our standard items we get. Of course we have a family of 5 so a lot of it makes sense. Their clothing section continues to get bigger too.

The lady in the article... I get it, but it sounded more like a self control problem than a Costco problem. Believe me, the snacks look tasty, and I'd love to purchase all sorts of bulk meals there, but I don't because... self control.

Prices are about the same as US. (NT$33 = US$1). I think the hot dog is the only food that is the same as US. The others are a bit of variation.

Used to have a membership but found that for what it was worth it was more convenient and just as economical to shop at smaller locally owned venues that are closer to home.

Speaking of which, my Yucatan Sunshine is almost gone. I generally don't use a bottle of hot sauce in a year, but that stuff is tasty. I have a bottle of their Tiger Sauce arriving today.

In all fairness, Costco’s are extremely prevalent in my area. I have three that I drive within a half block of every day… Plus, the work has me stopping in Costco pretty much twice a month, and Karla uses the Costco pharmacy.

I just ordered some. Ya'll are liking it too much for me to just watch. I'm simple, I normally put Cholula on my eggs etc... Sounds like this might be an upgrade.

Some people are never satisfied.

Just drop a little cayenne or Aleppo pepper on it. Heat's easy. It's flavor that counts.
