    Makes sense.

@Mik it would require a constitutional amendment, and that's a heavy lift.

        Not happening.

It very much can, but to maximize it Trump needs to stay above the fray as much as is possible, to be more presidential. I think we've seen more of that this time. I hope it continues. The media TDS machine is already revved up - he just needs to treat it like the noise in the background.

It's a lot to expect and I may be disappointed, but there's always hope.

Understood. But it still makes sense .

Seems pretty easy to have the pardons ready to be issued at 11:59pm on Election Day.

But agreed amendments are hard and this one would be no one’s priority

Also seems pretty arbitrary and useless if the president wins reelection

What I don’t get is how there were any left. Obama and Trump both pardoned non-violent drug offenders.

Plus it’s always been a small number. The reformers fantasy has always been you have all these nice guys in federal prison who’s only crime was they did inhale but it just wasn’t true.

Maybe earlier rounds excluded people dealing? And now this gets the dealers? I really don’t know.

It could be that Obama was more targeted. I remember there was concern about sentencing disparities between black drug users crack cocaine and white the powdery kind, for example. Maybe he target those things. I’m too lazy to look it up.

It’s likely just new cases that popped up over the last 4 years. 2500 isn’t a lot spread out over 50 states and 4 years.

They all had to be federal, so lots of DEA involvement. The DEA doesn't go after little guys.

Who is paying for all these pardons?

The president wouldn't be giving them away.

Of course we pay for them eventually.
