Wow, I was just threatened on Facebook...

On a private page for my old hometown, somebody made a really stupid post that was comparing being black or gay with being handicapped. I replied "Tell me Frank, did they have seatbelts on those little buses you rode to school in? They didn't on the big buses..."
He replied "Hey Brad, do you think that stupid shit would fly at Jordan Kitt's Music...
This was my reply (copy and pasted from FB, don't mind the the lack of paragraphs)
Mr.XXXXXX, that sounds very much like an attempt at intimidation and is a very threatening demeanor to take over a joke in a private Facebook group. If you found the joke offensive and didn't like it, there are a lot of ways that you can address it. The first option is to simply ignore it. That's generally the best approach. Roll your eyes and let it go as it matters little. The second option is to grow a pair and address me directly, explain that you didn't care for the joke and ask me to remove it. We could then have a civil debate and who knows, maybe even find areas of common ground, but at the least we could engage in a real dialogue instead of posting simplistic platitudes over very real and complex issues. The third option would be to report the joke to the moderator of this page, who could then make the decision as to whether the joke was appropriate. Any of these three would have been an appropriate response, but with decreasing maturity at each level. Instead, you chose to make an attempt to threaten my livelihood over a joke on a ridiculous post that was itself a stupid and vacuous meme that does nothing to address the very real problems and divisions in this country. That tactic may have worked several years ago (though I doubt my employer would care very much about a stupid joke on a private Facebook group) but the fact is that public sentiment has shifted very much against these types of tactics, and the most that you could hope to accomplish is an escalation. That's not really going to gain you anything. I ask you to reconsider your response, and try to find a little more mature and responsible way of handling conflict and disagreement.

It's really not worth getting into this stuff on Facebook IMHO. As Mik said, nobody wins. Admittedly, I haven't always practiced what I'm preaching.

I think the shovel handle is a little too much. I’d just leave the head on a newspaper to avoid staining the brickware and a little red bow tied on one ear.
