MAMIL

With all due respect to the members here who ride bikes, this is the kind of shit that just really pisses me off.
I was in the left-hand lane, stopped at a red light, waiting for the left turn arrow.
Directly across the street was a MAMIL, sitting DEAD CENTER in the lane, with a line of cars behind him.
Common courtesy would be that he be to the right of the car in the lane.
When I got the arrow, I made my left turn, and without waiting for his light to turn green, he crossed the street while the cars behind him waited for the green.

As a board certified MAMIL, I could post every time a car driver has acted like a complete twat when I'm cycling, but it happens so often it would become uninteresting.
But you're right, there are some knobhead cyclists out there.

Yeah, there are twats everywhere (I love how you use that word). This, however, was twatteriffic, in addition to being illegal (slower traffic to the right, and all that).

Bicyclists tend to think they are granted optionality on traffic laws. The ones that convenience them apply, those that don’t, do not.
Apparently there are exceptions but I’ve never seen them in the US anyway.

That's very true. Either that or you get the rules lawyer like in George's example. That's both legal and dickish in many states.
As for me, I've said many times that I break the shit out of traffic laws on my bike in the interest of safety. If running a red means getting away from a string of cars I'd otherwise hold up once the light changes, you bet your ass I'm going to run it. I'll even pass a long line of stopped cars to do so if I think the move will get me away from them after the change. Can't have it both ways, drivers.
