Yeah, there are twats everywhere (I love how you use that word). This, however, was twatteriffic, in addition to being illegal (slower traffic to the right, and all that).

Bicyclists tend to think they are granted optionality on traffic laws. The ones that convenience them apply, those that don’t, do not.
Apparently there are exceptions but I’ve never seen them in the US anyway.

That's very true. Either that or you get the rules lawyer like in George's example. That's both legal and dickish in many states.
As for me, I've said many times that I break the shit out of traffic laws on my bike in the interest of safety. If running a red means getting away from a string of cars I'd otherwise hold up once the light changes, you bet your ass I'm going to run it. I'll even pass a long line of stopped cars to do so if I think the move will get me away from them after the change. Can't have it both ways, drivers.
