New George Floyd video

So some of this we knew, but my big takeaways are:
- He was clearly mentally and/or drunk/high
- He was resisting, mostly in regards with getting in the vehicle
- He started his “I can’t breathe” when he was sitting in the car by himself, likely in reference to his claustrophobia
- He asked to be put on the ground instead
Does this ultimately make Office Chauvin innocent? No, as I’ve said before it seemed like everything was fine up until the point when Floyd passed out, at which point it took too long for the cop to get off and check.
But it sure does show that Floyd was acting weird/resisting and, maybe more importantly, claiming he couldn’t breathe before anyone was even on top of him or his neck, which would support why the cops didn’t take his breathing claims seriously while on the ground.

I wouldn't care if he was a gangbanger. And thankfully we have a court system whose laws don't protect only the people we feel comfortable with.

Would explain his symptoms along with no evidence of asphyxiation.

There’s a reason this video isn’t going viral amongst the woke on social media and the MSM... it doesn’t help the case against the officer.
Well of course. Wokeness doesn't have anything to do with findings of fact, and it's always got to be the same story: the black victim's got to be presented as a pillar of his community and the white officer's got to be a demon. How the woke crowd feels about anything is as far away from an objective viewpoint as my HR director's opinions on Asians.
I'm still not at all convinced the officer's not a piece of shit, I don't care how bad a guy Floyd might turn out to be.

Why has Keith Ellison been sitting on this video?

Does this video move the needle on this being a racist event?

To ask the question is to answer it.
And doesn't change my opinion of Ellison.

Really depends on what you mean. The cop's a POS, but I doubt his motivation was "down with blacks." Maybe something more like "this Floyd guy's a POS so it doesn't matter how I treat him." Typical asshole cop shit. In which case, no, I'm not very moved. You don't get to use excessive force on people you don't like, terrible people, etc. You sure as shit don't get to watch them die.

We've all been pummeled with the "fact" this was a racist event. Protests. Riots. Cats and dogs mating in the streets.
So now, it turns out that the cop probably would have been an asshole to anybody in Floyd's condition. Because he could.
-
For the record I never didn’t think that.
I always thought we should take these protests seriously but not literally.

I fail to see how you can shrug away the fact that 99% of the emotional energy of the protests was based on a fictitious narrative. And no, you didn't say that, and I deeply apologize for the straw man. But please develop this notion of taking the protests seriously while not taking the fictitious part of the narrative literally.

You're using a single caricature to describe "the protests," which I'll admit is advantageous for your agenda but isn't at all helpful with objectivity. (And by the way, you're moving the goalposts: I thought these protests weren't protests at all? I thought they were just an excuse to riot? If you're going to be single-minded about all the incidents nationwide then you need to pick one: excuse for anarchists to riot, or a ginned up anti-racism campaign.)
There's the incident itself, and the demonstrations. As far as the demonstrations go, you have (1) people wanting real change in the policing infrastructure in many states and cities, (2) the woke, and (3) rioters.
2 and 3 I think we both agree aren't worth taking seriously, and it's why I'm not against statue destroyers being rounded up by police. As for (1), their position is not informed only and exclusively by George Floyd. They've been harping on this for a long, long time. So you're going to have to do better than explaining away one incident if you want to discredit their position.
Anyway, that's a very rough sketch of the actual landscape we're dealing with. If you're going to lump it all together because you dislike them all equally then we're going to get nowhere.

I think circa 100% of the people on the streets would have characterized their emotional response as against institutionalized racism rather than against police misconduct regardless of race. And rightly so. I mean, as reasons go, it is more plausible to react that way to this racism narrative than it would be to a notion that police misconduct is a super important issue for all of us which transcends skin color. Which puts the racism narrative squarely in the sights of those who wonder whether there's a huge problem here that merits the reaction.

I think the idea is if enough of us white folk self-flagellate with Robin D’Angelo’s book it’ll fix the schools in Philly.
