I tipped the waitress that served our lunch on Thanksgiving day 33%.
The place was packed, the only thing open for miles.

And that’s why certain servers and restaurants do better with the tipping model. There are a significant number of people that want to tip excellent service. They don’t want to feel compelled through higher prices, though, and they don’t want to see poor service compensated the same as good service.
-
I just tip cash to the wait staff. What gets me are the high tip options for haircuts. Holy Guacamole.

In speaking to a friend, he mentioned that Chicago has increased the minimum wage for waiters. It will increase until it equals the regular minimum wage.
Would this change your tipping or the % that you tip?

No.

But it will change others…

Yeah I don't really care how much someone makes, waiter, haircut, cab, bartender, delivery driver... the scenarios where I tip.
-
If it’s great service, whatever they pay them is not enough.

How do you decide who to tip? Why pick those as oppose to dentist, car/bike mechanic, travel agent, anesthesiologist (LOL), etc.?

Mostly tradition with what I grew up with. I know some professions (like waiters) are paid mostly in tips, so that makes sense whereas the others don't necessarily make sense I'll admit.

Like any cultural practice you learn by observing those around you.
