    As an aside, our election season is still going on. We have 3 special elections in January that will decide the commonwealth’s House and Senate.

          Certainly this would incentivize employers to ask such questions.

          Especially with ‘mandatory’ tips becoming more common.

            Performance bonus, year-end bonus, quarterly bonus ... all these can be "tips."

              The way to slow this down is to make sure tips aren’t deductible as an expense to the company, even if they are collected centrally and distributed via payroll checks.

                  What I don’t see is any kind of rationale. How is it that we’re not going to tax tips, but will totally tax the hell out of birthday gifts…
