    Seeing some speculation.

    DeSantis get’s SecDef
    Laura Trump gets Rubio’s seat.
Hegseth goes back to banging interns at FoxNews.

    Only non-witches get due process.

DeSantis would probably be OK - lot's of experience in an executive position. Might position him for a run in 2028...but Vance?

      Lara? Meh.

      Hegseth wins, regardless.

Are there any other states in the US where Trump could get Cabnet apointees from other than Florida? We're not going to have anyone left to run the state!

Indeed and if my memory serves me right, Cheney did a damn good job as SecDef. So good a job, that Bush the Younger selected him as his VP.

DeSantis is term-limited, but his current term runs through 2026. It would be a damn shame for Florida to lose him 2 years earlier, and I think serving as Governor is a better fit for him. If he does want to run in 28, he would be well positioned to leave office in 27, spend a year doing the pundit rounds and training for debate/presentation, put together a better campaign staff and come out swinging in 2028.

I don’t think DeSantis is a great campaigner, though. His first campaign for Governor fell flat, and he likely did need Trump to push him over. On the other hand, he is an EXTREMELY competent executive. I mean, the guy is just that damn good. I think he would be better off taking 2 terms in the House, then come back to the Governor’s mansion.

Do their term limits work that way? He can leave and come back?

I think he’d take SecDef if offered myself. It’s a good platform to continue his anti-woke warrior schtick while getting national attention.

The problem with DeSantis is charisma - he needs a transfusion. Competent, reasonable, and all that.

But he just comes off awkward to me.

                                          Seen on twitter:

In 1989, President George H.W. Bush nominated John Tower, senator from Texas, for Secretary of Defense. Now, Tower was a very considerable person, a real defense intellectual, someone who deeply understood defense, unlike the current nominee. And it emerged that Tower had a drinking problem, and when he was drinking too much, he would make himself a nuisance or worse to the women around him. And for that reason, his nomination collapsed in 1989. You don't want to think that our moral standards have declined so much that you can say, 'Let's take all the drinking, all the sex-pesting, subtract any knowledge of defense, subtract any leadership, and there's your next Secretary of Defense for the 21st century.'"
