Northern Lights in southern Virginia

This is rare
Some neighbors posted pictures, my daughter a few miles away took pictures
I don't see anything
Just a bunch of deer on my lawn wondering what I'm doing and when I'll get out of the way so they can go back to eating my roses.

Here too. But you have to look at it through your phone camera. Not my idea of the northern lights.

It was supposed to be naked eye visible here, all I saw was a slight lightening.

Even when we had terrific northern lights here back in May... what you saw through the camera was 100x better than with the naked eye. I actually wonder if the northern lights are as colorful as pictures show anywhere... maybe above the arctic circle?

what is this phenomenon? it has even appeared here in our Central Valley of late. all those girls that want to go to Alaska to kiss the boy, hmphh, we don't have to travel anymore.
