Remember the good old days when Japanese whiskeys were a credible alternative to their more expensive Scotch cousins?

    Yeah.

I remember buying a bottle of this for about $40.

Glenmorangie or Glenfarclas. Mild and smooth. No peat. No smoke. More full-bodied than Glenlivet.

Yup. And it's just as good. The 10-year is $60, the 12-year is $80.

So much for the "cheaper, just-as-good" alternative.

But, as long as you're thinking about Christmas gifts for me...

I wonder how much to buy an empty bottle, refill it with 12, and impress the hell out of your friends…

If you send me a brand new Yamaha 52" U3 with SH3 silent system, I'll let you find out for free!

It would be fun to do an expensive scotch/whiskey tasting event. Similar to wine, I wonder how much of a taste difference there is between the average and the UBER expensive. I'd imagine my highly scientific chart would look something like this:

I think your graph would be inverted. (Of course I say this never having tried scotch/whiskey. LOL)

At one time I had 3 bottles of MacAllan in my stock - 10, 12, 15 year old. I set up a test.

The difference between the 10 and 12 year was quite notable.

The difference between 12 and 15 was notable, but not as much. That difference is $100.

I can't find the 10 year old at my local store.
