I took it for granite that they would be.

If they would have considered only South Louisiana, it would have been the only black spot on the map.

That’s easy to answer. They aren’t measuring alcohol consumed, they are measuring alcohol purchased per capita. There is a lot of alcohol purchased in New Hampshire that is consumed elsewhere in New England. People will drive in from NY, Massachusetts, etc… and buy booze by the case because of the much lower tax, and drive it back. Illegal? Yes, but it still happens a lot. In addition, NH is very much a 4 season tourist destination. While their are are other states with bigger tourist industries, my guess is that New Hampshire is one of the largest Per Capita due to it’s small population size. People on vacation drink more… Especially in the winter ski resorts.

Normally Wisconsin dominates this type of chart. Maybe they took the poll at 8am when most citizens were still passed out, amirite @Horace

lol. I personally could never become an alcoholic. My body would not let me.

The big breweries are gone from Milwaukee except for Miller.

Anyway, we are still a slightly darker area on the map. 🍹

This thread made me curious of the whole world.

Of the Asian countries, I am not surprised to see Korea as the highest. A lot of drinking there - and most drinking is to the point of being falling down drunk.

Kind of a funny story. The first time I was in South Korea, there would be sometimes a police roadblock checking for drunk drivers. The method of detection was to have you breath into a paper cup and then the officer would smell that for signs of alcohol. That is bad enough for the officer, but you have to remember that Korean food has a lot of garlic! eek!!

That red square in Western Louisiana is Vernon Parish, home to Fort Polk (or whatever the Biden bunch is calling it nowadays), one of the largest army bases in America.

                      Soldiers do drink.

Surprising; Nevada’s Clark country (where Las Vegas is) came up on the “dry” end of the spectrum.

I want an explanation of the disparity between the results in Ax's link and mine.
