That would of course have been a quite tempting option, too! Thanks for considering it, Jon!

Plus my son would probably consider her game.

@Mik healthy and cute as ever. He has his 2 1/2 year checkup tomorrow. Took his first poop on the potty this past weekend, but last night took a dump in his undies followed immediately by peeing on the bedroom carpet. At least that was before his bath. So ...yeah. toddler life.

Bribes. We used little plastic dinosaurs which she loved.

              Jon's house is out.

She could come here, but Cincinnati is such a German influenced city anyway.

But it’s a nice scale. And still very American.

Klaus - if this happens let’s have her come to my house for a week or so before it all starts. She can explore the city a bit. Then I’ll ship her off to wherever her final destination is. She’s almost certainly fly via NY anyway.

Thanks for this great offer! Would you consider it safe for a 15 year old female teenager to explore NYC on her own?

During the day and not for her first visit I’d trust a 15 year old walking around Manhattan. Though it could be a bridge too far for her. Even the boy was a little intimidated in May, a month before he turned 15, when he left me and some friends in Manhattan to walk to Grand Central and go home by himself. And he was born in Manhattan.

But that’s moot. I’m 100% sure Mayla would accompany her every day.

To get on the "I'll offer my home" train, we'll be moving to a safe area of Baltimore (not The Wire area) and I'd love to have her visit us. The train/metro into DC is very doable, and Baltimore has fun things to do too. We'd enjoy showing her around. She could experience some rural Maryland life and the eastern shore if interested. Wild ponies, an ocean-front boardwalk with questionable fun rides.... Experiences like all those listed above are why we're moving our family to the area. (And to be close to my family)

If she comes in the summer she could spend several weeks with us. Foundation events end in June and start again in September. And if we do travel on vacation we’d take her with.

You're welcome! If she finds herself around/in DC, I'd say if she sticks to the mall and touristy areas she'd be fine on her own during the day. At 15 I enjoyed visiting the Smithsonian museums/zoo (they're free!) and monuments with friends. We easily took the metro into DC and wandered around.

If she comes to Minnesota in the summer she could spend a few days with us. Summer lasts from about June 10 to June 13.

based on our experience with foreign exchange programs, the host families generally do it for the money rather than for the opportunity to give an enriching home to a young student. I would take Ax up on his offer rather than get placed with a random host family.

Have some friends that hosted students a number of times for the whole school year. At least for them, it was completely voluntary. It ended up costing them money because it was an extra person. But the student and their family had to pay a fairly steep amount. Not sure what it was, but I think it was between USD$5 - $10 thousand. I think part of that was to the host high school as otherwise I think a person has to prove guardianship to enroll a student that is not their own.

EDIT: Checked and they went through an organization called AFS

Meh. Send her for a summer it’ll only cost you her flights and a bit of spending money. No one here is charging you room and board.
