Both of them are unfit in my opinion.
If (generic) you support(ed) President Biden (or Trump), you find ways to justify his words/actions, dismissing them as (whatever, not a big deal, daughter was just this or that, locker room talk, etc.)
-
@George-K said in Trump Sells $59.99 Bible:
And there's strong evidence that it is - especially when you consider other reports of similar behavior. It's not a one-of.
Now try that logic with Trump talking about veterans, women, in fact a whole host of things.

Straddling the fence again.
At some point in your life, somebody is going to put a political gun to your head with a binary choice that negates weaseling.

Nah, pretty sure she makes political binary choices every time she fills in a ballot.

LOL. I have history on my side. 555. I just find it hard to work up outrage that will supposedly occur if Candidate X is elected, WE ARE DOOMED. Pssst - We aren't.
The US has enough checks and balances. If President Trump is elected, democracy will not end in the US. If VP Harris is elected, the US will not fall into this hole and cease to exist as as country. The US is just not built to make sudden shifts, and it is becoming a smaller and smaller part of the overall world economy, but at the same time, becoming more integrated into the world economy.
In fact, I was able to do a search of the Old Coffee Room and here are just a few of from years past:
@Larry said on September 18, 1991 Crooked Bill Will Be The End Of the US:
If Crooked Bill Clinton is elected, we can all kiss our ass goodby. His election would mean the end of the US as we know it. He is a damn Commie and will lead us to the path of ruin. You read it hear first - if he is elected, I am packing up my farm equipment and moving to the Philippines!!!
@KathyK said on October 23, 1980 Upcoming Election: Is Democracy at Stake?:
I guarantee that four years from now, if Ronald Reagan is elected, the US will be a one party dictatorship. It will be like the rise of the Nazis all over again. You had better vote correctly in this election, because if we lose, there won't be a vote four years from now.
There are many others, but I just picked two random ones from previous election years.

Deflection.
I stand by my statement.
I had a back and forth with Larry, who never was willing to answer so I will ask you the same question
Come up with 5 indicators about the US (for example: GDP growth, inflation, stock market returns, crime statistics, school performance, trade deficit/surplus, patents per capita, border crossings, unemployment, jail population, church attendance, etc etc etc (whatever you can think of)).
I challenge you to find 5 that can be measured and are consistently either good or bad when the president is Republic or Democrat. Let's limit it to the last 75 years.
I am not a gamble person, but I am willing to bet that (generic) you will not be able to find 5. There may be 1 out there, but I seriously seriously doubt five.
Does the President make a difference? OF COURSE. But to say that the US will end if (TRUMP or HARRIS) is elected is overblow.
VP Harris can talk all she wants about forcing grocery stores to lower prices. Not going to happen.
President Trump can talk all he wants about eliminating inflation. Not going to happen. The US has enough checks and balances that the goofiest of the campaign "promises" made by the candidates fortunately never happen.

I'll give you one.
Perception. It's all you need.
Public perception determines who gets elected, who gets defeated and how a president is remembered.
-
Now, let's talk perception... Let's look at what middle-class people buy and how
middle-class people live, in the time period of Biden's presidency...Starting a little after he was elected.Riffing off the top of my head ...
Used cars are up about a third, groceries are up a bit shy of 30%, houses are up around 50%. Home mortgages have gone from around 4% to darn near 7%.
Now, I'm sure salaries have gone up, maybe even in real terms. But the guy on the street doesn't look at it that way. And I promise you, the average person doesn't give a tinker's damn about charts or statistics.
The Dems have two areas of strength in this election, Never-Trumpers and abortion.
Perhaps those can overcome the perception that three out of every five Americans think we're in a recession.

Fortunately, she didn’t.
WOW, that Kamala is a powerful advocate for abortion, no?

I don't disagree. As I said in a post a couple of years ago (at least I am consistent!! 555)
https://nodebb.the-new-coffee-room.club/topic/17486/inflation-s-not-so-bad/49?_=1724463001136
But to get back to my previous question. Can anybody here name five measurable things (GDP, inflation, growth, etc etc) that consistently do better under a Republic (or Democrat) president? I don't think so.
And another question, LOL. For those of you favoring President Trump including because of the economy, what are your expectations if he is elected?
I think that at the end of November, inflation will be <3%, unemployment <4%, growth ~2.5 - 3%, stock market up 50% during President Biden (50% under President Trump also). So, what to do think the numbers would be under a President Trump at the end of 2025? Do you really think that there will be a significant change from what we have now?

I didn't need five. You don't need five. You only need one. Elections turn on perception.
Right now, the Dems are rerunning the basement strategy, trying to craft the perception that Kamala is a young, fresh, dynamic leader. They are aided and abetted by a fawning media, creating >90% favorable coverage, while simultaneously broadcasting >90% negative coverage for her opponent.
She has almost no policy positions, and the Dems are trying to stack votes, particularly through their harvesting mail-in ballots and ground game, to drag her across the finish line before her deficiencies are well known.
They are trying desperately to craft the public's perception of a person once ranked to the Left of Bernie Sanders and morph her into a competent moderate.

Mostly agree. That just reinforces my thoughts/statements that it doesn't make sense to say that the sky is falling if Harris or Trump is elected. The sky won't fall.
Mentally, people may feel better if their preferred candidate wins (i.e. the cheerleader effect), but looking at overall measurable data, but in the "big picture" there is not a cliff that will happen to society.

Cliffs do not occur in a moment. There is always a road that leads to a cliff. You don't want somebody building the wrong road.

You mean like Biden running up the U.S. debt to equal the entire money supply of the world?
