It detects when your baby starts to cry, and starts rocking and playing "in the womb sounds. It costs only $1500.
Oh, if you want it to work it's a $20 a month

The smart move to avoid pissing off customers as much would be to give 6-12 months free without subscription, so new users would get it, and then after that charge so that people buying them used still provide a revenue stream.

The Snoo has a great reputation in the infant world with how well it works. Maybe we would've benefited from them (hello, Sleep thread!) but we were somewhat old school... just an old black/white monitor with a fuzzy picture, no WiFi or other smart devices involved, slept in a pack 'n' play in our room, then crib after a few months.
I know many parents will buy "used" Snoo's since they are expensive and have a good re-sale value (which makes sense).
@Doctor-Phibes has a good point about how to not double-punish someone who buys the Snoo new, while still getting revenue from new users of a previously used product.
It's not a new problem in the baby product world... strollers, car seats, cribs, and many other products are resold time after time as parents no longer have a need. Subscription fatigue is real though...
Maybe they should just require a $100 activation fee for any new owner of a user Snoo?

Every business wants stable/predictable, never-ending revenue. Hence "subscription."
Well, that's for software. Hardware goes for "planned obsolescence."
As a consumer, I don't like it. But investors and business owners like it. :man-shrugging:

I don't think A/V monitors qualify as 'old school'.

LOL, maybe not your school, but most of my friends have HD 4K color video feeds you can view from your smart phone, and monitor baby breathing, temperature, oxygen, etc. Our monitor has a fuzzy black white image and you have to hold it up high if you're on a different floor of the house so that it gets a signal.
