You would think that an SUV opening fire on a guard station on a US Army base would bot be able to get away.

It would seem that one SUV attacking an air base is kind of a bad idea.

            Air Force, not Army

It takes several minutes to get an attack plane off the ground

Joint Base. Army normally handles base security when they are the partner.

Shirley you have passed by these types of main gates. And especially at 430am. Normally there are a few troops inside, probably on their phone, with a main person ready to stand up and check an ID when a vehicle pools up. Sometimes they have a vehicle next to them, not always on. If you look at the map of this place, the main gate is off of Military Road (or some name).... I can very easily see an SUV slowly drive by, open window, fire shots, and then floor it... within about 20 seconds they are lost in the grid of the city.
