The most well-known musical artist?

He makes a good argument, though many people will know the music but not that the guy was John Williams.
For name recognition, I would think someone like Beethoven or Mozart would have more name recognition.

Agreed. Probably the most well known music... but not the artist.
Heck, most of the world probably doesn't know they're listening to John Williams this week (admittedly, I don't know if this music is used in other countries).

As a bit of a movie soundtrack nerd... I'm glad Beato highlighted the Williams scores he did. The superman man theme is underrated in terms of its rhythmic complexity, IMO... the entire Star Wars albums are worth a listen (e.g., Battle for Endor), and Harry Potter is on another level.
But he also didn't mention Williams is behind the Olympics theme (see above), Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, and even others like Home Alone, Catch Me If You Can...
Personally, John Williams is the GOAT from 1975-2000 and Hans Zimmer is the GOAT since 2000. I'm actually going to my 2nd Hans Zimmer concert in September, woot woot.
