Someone captured on their Ring cam three young children doing a ding dong ditch. They were around 9 or 10. The person so assaulted posted it on the neighborhood facebook group, and there were some responses from gun owners that maybe such things aren't safe, fafo, and so on. The mother of one of the kids posted this:

Hey neighbors, I’ve admitted it was my kiddo and it’s not ok to do what he did today and consequences are in action but having read the comments in this page I’m deeply disturbed, they didn’t steal anything and that was obvious in the video and what was also obvious was it 3 kiddos just having a laugh and couldn’t run away fast enough. What I am finding way more disturbing than 3 kids running up to a door, ring a bell and running away (I get that they spoke about stealing a package but actually that wasn’t the game for them it was only having a laugh) you can clearly see them laughing at their bold selves, these comments were deeply disturbing to me calling the news or packing guns, they are 9 and 10 not thugs, you can see there was obviously no malice. Did none of us ever do this as kids. What is wrong with people that this is absolutely outrageous wow you must all have been so righteous as kids yourselves to never have done anything like this. Talking about reporting it to the news and packing guns and that’s an acceptable response. Ask anyone about my kid and they will tell you he’s sweet and kind and a good kid, I’m absolutely floored by adults who should know better. Yes my kid is in trouble, yes he’s seen the comments you’ve all written and is afraid (and perhaps that’s a good lesson) but this is a family neighborhood and there are kids who do kid things please react accordingly. I apologize for my kiddos part but people need to calm down

I responded to that one and let her know that I had done similar things when I was a child and now I'm a fine upstanding old man.

Today, the victim of the ding dong ditch posted that one of the kids had come to her door and apologized. It was the kid of the woman who posted that. The victim indicated that the apology meant a lot to her.

    Education is extremely important.

A little verbose but the mother is 100% correct. It happens in our neighborhood at times, the only time I'd be pissed if it was after the kids are asleep. Either way... the downside of facebook/internet, everyone has a megaphone when things could be solved with a simple conversation. Not even sure I would ask for an apology, I cringe to think of the dumb things I did as a kid, pre-internet luckily.

I know. It's a matter of perspective, and we get bent out of shape about the silliest things.

Wow. If that happened to me it would put an instant smile on my face and make me wax nostalgic on my own childhood pranks.

A flaming bag of cowpie would make you smile?

                  No the ding-dong-ditch.

The flaming bag of dog poop would piss me off but I’d accept it as karma.

It'd be funny the next day.
