So Karla and Finley had a close call today…

The 7-11 where the woman was carjacked at is one that Karla and Finley almost stopped at on their way to a park.
While they were at the park, they saw the Kia speeding up the street, chased by the police, and 5 minutes later came screaming through the parking lot of the park with the police in pursuit. A mom walking from her car was nearly hit.

@LuFins-Dad Wow!! Glad it was not them. Too close for comfort!!

The Giant in that shopping center is where we used to get groceries when we first got married - 1982.
We lived in Kingston Chase, kind of between Herndon High and the Golf Course.
The neighborhood was fairly civilized back then.

20 years ago, I ran the Steinway showroom that was 100 ft west of the 7-11. I used to buy my cigarettes there.

Ahem...You meant undocumented.

Lord. Glad they are both ok. How about the woman who was carjacked?
She didn’t make it.

Oh, he’s plenty documented…

Something about Kia cars (and with MD plates too) that just LOVE to be carjacking targets, not sure why.
Anyway... yeah that is scary. Even though the odds are near impossible, I recall walking by a car accident wreck that plowed through a sidewalk and fence one time in Virginia right where I'd walk my daughter once per day. Not fun to think about.

Seemed like a great lady too. Grandmother, taking care of her own mother, works at a nursing home…

Herndon has had an undocumented population for a long time.
They took over the Alabama Drive area which was a quiet residential area that became a known hangout for drug dealers. They really trashed the area back around 1990. I think that it has been somewhat rehabilitated since then.
Then the apartments near the end of Sunrise Valley DR. became known as a place where drug-dealing gangs lived.

This brings me back to 89th questions about safety. When we were driving I always was tuned in to who was around us and aware of the possibility of carjackings. Here? Never have given it a remote thought.

I’ve never given it remote thought in the US, including when driving through Harlem and the Bronx.

Have you done that lately? Quite common in Chicago, in all neighborhoods.
ETA - there is a downward trend, however.

The Corolla didn’t meet their standards.
