My workout injury

Last summer I broke that right sternal suture at the gym (left side of picture). I felt it pop. It was weird, I knew instantly what it was.
Besides that wire I have a few staples inside, you can see them in the above picture below the wire a couple inches, but they show up much more on the left lateral image below.
I had 55 more staples on the outside closing my chest up, but they got removed after 6 weeks or so. These internal few stayed behind.
By the way my transplant was 4 years ago last Thursday.
Only non-witches get due process.

So, the squggly lines mean something? I assume it is wire, but what does it do, other than look like the surgeon was at least tipsy when he installed or dropped it into you? Are you in any pain at all, from such a huge operation years ago?
None of my business, don't feel obliged to answer. Really glad it's been 4 years already, seems like just a year or two ago when we were all rooting for you!

4 years - holy crap.
Looks like that's a wire that broke.
The heart surgeons I worked with at the university got away from using wire to "suture" the sternum shut - now, however, wires are pretty much standard.
IIRC, your incision was not a midline sternotomy but a bilateral subcostal incision, right? Not surprised that a wire broke - with the constant flexing and bending, it was a matter of time, I suppose.
It's probably a nothingburger, but still good to be aware of what's going on. I would guess the only real problem would be if that end of the fractured wire causes some kind of injury or discomfort.
The staples you see in the posterior pericardium (behind the heart) were probably applied to small branch vessels that were feeding your original lungs. We see this a lot with people who have had a CABG.

@Rainman It held things together post surgery. It doesn't really do much anymore, but they don't take it out unless it causes a problem (taking it out is a surgical procedure, albeit minor).
But yeah, it broke. That happens, and unless it starts bothering me we'll just leave it.

I have two titanium plates in my jaw where the socket holes used to be.
So if you don't buy a mobile home from me, it ain't gonna hurt my feelings. -
