Being Good Friday, Mrs. George (a good Luthran), insists that we don't eat meat.

So, it's every man for himself.

She's going to have a frozen quiche. I'm gonna make myself an omelet.

2 loaves of sourdough just went in the oven...

Salmon and wild rice is the main course.

Mrs. Mark baked blueberry muffins from scratch.

Because of the ketchup, I assume?

But seriously, what made them great? Other than a great chef, of course.

Scallops, big juicy scallops, really good raw material. But I botched the cooking.
Still edible and still tasted like scallops, but it was just filling the stomach rather than a delectable feast.
But the bubble tea with a bit of Kaoliang before and a shot of Tawny port after were good. 😋

@Mik burgers are our Friday default - but i made pizza dough last night and let it ferment overnight.

The pizza stone wasn’t delivered in time, but we’ll make due with a cast iron and metal pan.

@xenon , we used to hand make pizza every Friday night for quite a few years! That’s great.

@Mik nice! Every meal thread on TNCR makes me feel like a caveman. You all eat so fancy.

Btw tonight was our first time leading takeout. Did the Olive Garden $12.99 (total) for two entrees. Quite the deal.

Had a buddy whose dad ran a local pizza parlor. They had great pan pizzas. Every now and then, we'd sneak in the kitchen and get the folks to make one up for us. They used a homemade crust, and baked the pizza in a cast iron skillet with the handle sawed off.

A really top flight burger is greater than the sum of its parts. You have to start with the best ingredients, like this fantastic local beef. Past that it’s all proportions and I got lucky.

By the way, i had no dressing at all. Just beef seasoned with salt, pepper and a little garlic, cheese, tomato, vidalia onion, lettuce and pickle. Nothing more is needed.

I've always appreciated the mcdonalds double cheeseburger for its proportions. Probably not for the quality of the beef though.

@Horace that’s what I normally order, but I get it plain. Bread, meat, cheese. Delicious and cheap.

@Axtremus scallops are devilishly difficult to cook well. At least for me. I first fell in love with them around 1976 when Long John Silvers were selling them battered and deep fried. Fantastic.
