I got the distinct impression that's what it was.

    Jesus Muad' Dib.

As I mentioned, there are some real liberties taken with the story. Because it's such massive work, I understand the need to be selective about what's shown.

But I don't understand some of the stuff, like not putting Fred's poison into the duel.

On the other hand, if I hadn't read the book, I would have thought this was a really great tale, well-told. That thought crossed my mind several times during the movie.

Meh. It's a movie. It ain't the book.

And Chani was pissed at Paul long before the Irulan thing, so I don't think that was it.

        Please love yourself.

I have to re-watch it. I last saw it about a month ago.

              Might be interesting.

Remember, the movie ends where Paul and Jessica end up in the desert and meet the Fremen.

ETA: It was my impression that the first movie was closer to the book than the 2nd.

Other than the rushed Dr. Yueh stuff, the missing "Dining" scene, the irrelevance of Thufir....

As a movie, well done, yes, very competently executed, but not innovative or groundbreaking like Star Wars was at the time. As for as the story goes, it still looks like a "chosen-one hero" sort of story, and the hero is not even that complicated/conflicted a character. The complex politics aren't quite getting through. Quite impressed by the worm riding scenes and the large scale military conflict scenes, though.

I’m not taking back the “It was fine”, but there were a few problems…

                          1. They just totally blew past the spacing guild and the navigators.

                          2. They also did not really explain how important spice is to the rest of humanity as well. The Bene Geserit, the Tleilaxu, medicines/aging, etc… Just that it was needed for navigation.

                          3. No explanation of Mentats… Just a guy whose eyes roll to the back of their heads …

                          4. The biggest potential problem is their tendency to “Na’vize” the Fremen. The tendency to of filmmakers to promote the idea of an innate nobility to the oppressed. They imply a wisdom and profound goodness to the native culture that is being squashed by the colonizer. First, that trope has always been ridiculous to begin with and second, that is NOT the Fremen.

But overall it was quite good.

Agree with all of your points.

One of the things I really enjoyed (!) about the David Lynch movie is the scene where the Emperor meets with the guild navigator.

"The Bene Geserit witch must leave..." And, the relationship with the Bene Geserit with the Emperor.

Jose Ferrar's face as he looks into the orange gas-filled tank.

The actual navigator, with fish-like mouth.

The guild "interns" sweeping up any spice that may have spilled out.

Also, that scene in Lynch's movie really explains that plot of the emperor.

                                      "Dune Prophecy"

Currently expected to arrive on Max in the fall this year, Dune: Prophecy will serve as a prequel series to Denis Villeneuve's critically acclaimed movie adaptations of Frank Hebert’s novels. Set thousands of years before the rise of Paul Atreides, the upcoming spinoff show will chart the origins of the mysterious and influential order known as the Bene Gesserit.

While the original Dune author Frank Herbert only penned six novels set in his expansive science fiction universe, the franchise has since expanded to include a total of 23 novels and 13 short stories spanning some 15,000 years of history. Widely regarded as one of the most influential and intricately detailed science fiction properties, current and previous film and television adaptations have only begun to scratch the surface of Dune’s true potential.

While Villeneuve is adamant that his plans for the Dune franchise will end after Dune: Messiah, Warner Bros. may want to continue exploring Herbert’s sci-fi universe long after his departure. Moreover, with Dune: Prophecy introducing a corner of the Dune universe that existed millennia before Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides ever set foot on Arrakis, it could also potentially pave the way for countless potential spinoffs to follow.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.
