Hey Horace! Burke name
-
“What I want to happen is for some kids to say, ‘Hey Dad, we live in Fenton. How come all these things are named Burke? Oh, let me tell you,'” Martosko said. “The juxtaposition creates teachable moments, and that’s the whole point.”
Then, finally, someone would be talking about slavery and the legacy of racism in America. Baby steps towards equality. Good for Mr Martosko.

Without the name change, how will the kids ever know America (and basically every country on earth) used slaves?

Personal anecdote, 40 years ago when I was in grade school, I had a young black female history teacher who, in the semester where we were supposed to learn about the civil war, taught only about slavery. I never heard the names "Grant" or "Lee" in my grade school public education.
