https://nextshark.com/ukrainian-miss-japan-2024Carolina Shiino ... became the first naturalized Japanese citizen to win the Miss Japan Grand Prix pageant.
...
“I’ve had to face barriers that often prevent me from being accepted as Japanese, so I am filled with gratitude to be recognized at this competition as a Japanese person,” Shiino said on stage ...
.
Online skepticism: Despite declaring herself Japanese in “speech and mind,” her victory sparked skepticism on social media, with some questioning the choice of crowning someone who is not of Japanese descent.
...
Judges’ defense: However, event organizers justified the selection of Shiino, highlighting that the judges were impressed by her “confidence.” Ai Wada, the pageant organizer, also emphasized that “Japanese beauty exists not in the appearance, not in the blood, but it exists firmly in our heart,” urging viewers to contemplate on the essence of Japanese beauty.
“She speaks and writes in beautiful and polite Japanese,” Ai Wada added. “She is more Japanese than we are.” -
My first thought was, is she a dude? Sad we even have to think that these days.
Also, I get the criticism. In what is clearly a politically incorrect and phobic opinion that I will immediately go to confession for... I have no problem with countries and cultures including how their citizens look as one aspect of their culture. Japanese women should look... japanese. Same with australia, england, france, mexico, etc. It's part of our inherent tribalism as human beings. But I am a dying breed, I suppose.

Sigh, I thought the same thing.

If she "identifies" as Japanese, there should be no problem, amirite?

No longer Miss Japan
Karolina Shiino, the Ukraine-born winner of last month’s Miss Japan contest, has relinquished her title, the contest organizer said Monday, following a magazine report that she was having an affair with a married man.

Not being Japanese is not.
Japanese are becoming as crazy as we are.
Japanese by blood?
Japanese by citizenship?
Japanese by heritage?
Japanese by residency?
Japanese by character?
Japanese by lifestyle?
Japanese by state of mind?
Japanese by spirit? -

What's the point of beauty contests? I've never understood them. Frequently, the women aren't particularly hot. I haven't seen one in years, but I remember in the old days they all used to be very skinny and tall, and the contest seemed to consist of a bunch of vaguely creepy people judging them, and then they all burst into tears as though it matters.

Beauty pageants had their origin in photographic beauty contests that were publicized in newspapers in the 1850’s, and bathing beauty contests in the 1880’s.

Origins of the Beauty Pageant
Contests to determine "who is the fairest of them all" have been around at least since ancient Greece and the Judgment of Paris. According to legend, a poor mortal goatherd, Alexandros (Paris), was called upon to settle a dispute among the goddesses. Who was the most beautiful: Hera (Juno), Aprhodite (Venus), or Athena (Minerva)? All three goddesses offered bribes: according to the writer Apollodorus, "Hera said that if she were preferred to all women, she would give him the kingdom over all men; and Athena promised victory in war, and Aphrodite the hand of Helen." When Paris selected Aphrodite in exchange for getting Helen of Troy, the most beautiful mortal of the time, he inadvertently started the Trojan War. -
Is it Saudi Arabia where they have beauty contests for camels? And apparently somebody cheated by giving theirs Botox.
That's one fucked up country. I mean - who honestly thinks a camel isn't perfect already and needs plastic surgery?
