    Yup.

Staged or not, how do you explain the "People back East who want you to sit this out and are willing to put their money where their mouth is?"

    He said those words.

    Give me an alternative explanation.

"People back East who want you to sit this out and are willing to put their money where their mouth is?"

That sounds like a line from a Scorsese film.

            The Russians! I knew it.

I wonder where their mouth is. He didn't clarify.

Parties do this all the time, encourage some and discourage others from running.

Offering support, including financial support, in a future gubernatorial election if they sit out a senatorial election is not uncommon, I would think.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I'm not tracking your opinion. It's a staged conversation which represents something that happens commonly?

I'm not clear what difference the real, unedited conversation would have had, with this allegedly edited one. Your description of what happens commonly, would have landed with the same point, and given lake the same credibility as an anti-establishment figure.

Remember that this is a selectively edited audio.

                          1. Let’s say they are having a conversation about campaign contributions. He’s circumspectly commenting that some of the major PACs or donors would really like her to pull back from this run and shoot for Governor again next time and are willing to put their campaign contributions where their mouth is. She can easily manipulate the conversation to make it sound like bribery. I can easily see him looking at her with a dumbfounded look on his face as she spouts “$1 BILLION DOLLARS!“

                          2. Similar thing with talking about getting powerful people. He could easily be talking again about leaders of PACS, rightwing media, etc… that can help make or break campaign. She spouts “CARTELS?!” and suddenly everything takes on a more serious and dangerous outlook.

I really think that’s basically how this went down. He probably thought she was nuts during the conversation.

He could have included those clarifying details in his resignation letter.
