Have we forgotten the 18th Amendment?

Worried about your drinking? Use Dry January to check it

There are lots of great reasons to decide to go “dry” in January and give up alcohol. Perhaps you imbibed a bit too much over the holidays or want to start a healthy routine and can’t afford the calories or the zap in energy and motivation that drinking can bring.

“Or it may be someone who truly is starting to wonder or question their relationship with alcohol, and this is an opportunity to really explore that,” said Dr. Sarah Wakeman, medical director of the Substance Use Disorders Initiative at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Shit. The day is only 19 hours old, and I'm already a failure on this one.

Haven’t had a drop since Christmas Eve. No particular reason, we were just busy, then when we got home we were wiped out. Now I have some sort of sinus or respiratory thing going.

If you drink through your ear hole, does it count? Asking for a friend.

I've had that for a few days. It's not covid, I tested.

We're suffering through this as well. Been two weeks now, and still with some stuffy nasal thing persisting.

Crud making the rounds here. It's upper respiratory, with a 3-4 low grade temp and a hacking cough that won't go away. I've been barking a week.

I'm hardly ever ill, but frequently tipsy. I suspect these two things may be connected.

Dry January? What a stupid idea. Having said that, I really do need to shed the Christmas weight-gain. Went for a big walk this morning, and then took two more with the dogs.

                  I was only joking

Yeah, I did too, last night. I suspect it's a combination of a cold and the dry air out in Nevada for a week. We were around a LOT of people.

My wife and I have had a lingering phlegm/cough (usually after waking up or eating) that has lasted about 2 months. Not COVID, not really needing cough drops.. just the occasional coughing fit until the throat is clear. It's annoying, and my wife pulled a muscle from coughing, but otherwise just..... annoying. Hers has gone away so I'd suspect mine will be going away soon.

                        Nice!

My Christmas weight gain is really a "had a 3rd kid" weight gain. Realistically it's not possible to work out in the evening after kids are in bed, or in morning before they wake up, since the odds are there will be at least one kid up before 11pm and one before 6am, and usually a few wake-ups between.

Anyway...... my point being, the only things I can control is to stop eating/boozing at night, which has been a very delicious, very relaxing, very rewarding bad habit over the last year.

I'm 6 feet tall, but currently weigh 230. My all time heaviest was 232 back in 2006 before I took up running and went down to 175 over the course of 2 years. Would love to be around 180 again in two years but to start that... better sleep, less snacking/drinking, and working out when I can. A very stupid and long way of saying, I'm on Day 2 of no booze.
