I know it will never happen, but it would have been nice if, from the beginning, batteries compartments were somehow standardized. Kind of like a light bulb outlet or something like that.
My start up goal was to have a company that provides battery swaps for cars. You never "own" the battery, just "rent" it. Electric cars would be much cheaper to buy, since you dont initially pay for the battery. You would pull into a "battery station" when your charge was down, the discharged battery would be removed, and a fully charged battery would be inserted. Zero charge time. Just like filling up your car with gas. Maybe in a parallel universe, this is happening.

I had the exact same idea!

I guess is that this would be technically rather challenging. Batteries are very big and very heavy. Getting a huge 700kg battery pack in and out of a car, fixing it such that it is crash-safe - I guess that' difficult. Also, you can't "hide" the batteries anymore in all kinds of places in the car - its design would be very constrained by the replaceable battery.
It's not exactly a novel idea. I think many people tried this already...
