Eh, I'm usually the one in front. I have no idea why. I can't sprint to save my life. I could never even make a half-decent go of it. But I'm a fast hiker.
I don't understand folks who hike for the views, either. Like the meme implies, it's barely a part of the whole experience. The dropout rate for the AT is exceedingly high for that exact reason.

I think that the nickname for the Appalachia Trail is the "Green Tunnel" -
I follow more than one Amtrak group on FB. So many people post picturesque photos of what the route of their ride looks like.
