We're going Christmas day. What did you think?

It said it cost USD$2.3 BILLION. Looks very cool and I hope to visit it, but it seems like it would be difficult to make that money back.

        https://lasvegassun.com/news/2023/nov/08/las-vegas-sphere-reports-984-million-loss-cfo-quit/

The Sphere in Las Vegas reported an operating loss of $98.4 million for the fiscal quarter ending Sept. 30, Sphere Entertainment Co. said this morning on an earnings call.

Additionally, the company lost its chief financial officer, as Gautam Ranji has resigned, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

It had so much class back then. Now it's just vulgar.

The sphere looks cool. Reminds me of my 4 top inventions as an idiot high schooler.

                  1. Autonomous cars, but using magnets on established paths to make transportation 100% safe and perfectly efficient (fastest speed without any collisions).
                  2. Movies delivered via Internet (hello Netflix).
                  3. A 360-degree way to film movies, then audiences would be placed into a theater in which they could look anywhere they wanted to view the story as it unfolds. Like a normal movie, but you can look anywhere.
                  4. A card game called Clubbers. Sadly I forgot how to play and never wrote down the instructions.

I agree with #1. Traffic jams are not because of too many cars (well, kind of) but the bigger problem is that the cars go different speeds, so braking is a problem.

#3. I read an article (maybe here) that one of the things that Apple was looking to do with their new VR goggles was to partner with sports leagues and for example, sell "seats" to games. So, you could sit right on the sideline and watch a US football game for example, seeming like you were there.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

That is a great idea. I think it's already implemented in some places, like here:

The Sphere in Las Vegas is already bringing in big bucks.

The company, controlled by Madison Square Garden owner James Dolan, has only been operating for a little over two months, but it says that its two marquee shows: The U2 residency “U2: UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere” and the original Darren Aronofsky film Postcards From Earth have combined to bring in more than $75 million for the company so far.

The company delivered the update in a securities filing Tuesday morning, adding that it expects the Sphere to be profitable for the current quarter ending Dec. 31.

The Sphere says that the 17 U2 performances through Nov. 30 have brought in $30.7 million in revenue for the company, averaging $1.8 million per concert. Aronofsky’s Postcards From Earth has had 111 screenings through Nov. 30, and has brought in $44.5 million in revenue, averaging $400,000 per showing.

But the Sphere is still likely a ways off from being profitable, considering that it cost a whopping $2.3 billion to build. And that $75 million also doesn't fact in operating costs, which were about $7.8 million through the third quarter.
