I think that the headline is a bit misleading, but the substance of the report is kind of weird

Recently-unearthed footage shows Mike Johnson, now the Speaker of the House, promoting an app that enables "accountability" between him and his son over any porn use.
"Covenant Eyes is the software that we've been using a long time in our household," he said. The footage appears to be from an event titled "War on Technology" at Benton, Louisiana's Cypress Baptist Church, where Johnson was billed as a speaker in October 2022.
Johnson described the app as an opt-in service that "scans all the activity on your phone, or your devices, laptop, tablet, what have you. We do all of it. And then it sends a report to your accountability partner."
In this case, it's his 17-year-old son, Johnson said. "So he and I get a report of all the things that are on our phones or devices once a week. If anything objectionable comes up, your accountability partner gets an immediate notice.
As someone commented:
“A US Congressman is allowing a 3rd Party tech company to scan ALL of his electronic devices daily and then uploading reports to his son about what he’s watching or not watching.... I mean, who else is accessing that data?” tweeted the user Receipt Maven, who first resurfaced the video.

I think that's laudable, not weird.

I think that it is more of a concern that a private non-government company is monitoring his (the congressman's) phone and all other electric devices. I think that would be a serious security issue and am surprised it is allowed.
-
I don't know. Would it be normal for them to do so?
Even if they are, it is "after the fact". Still seems like a security issue. I believe that Rep. Johnson is a smart guy, but this doesn't seem like a good idea. I am surprised you think it is okay.

It would certainly be illegal without a warrant.
Of course, that's not stopped FBI from doing it in the past.

Warrant?
They need a steenkin' warrant?

I seriously doubt Johnson is conducting any confidential business on his personal cell. This is a family matter.

(See Hillary Clinton and emails. LOL)
So, maybe he is looking at porn on his government devices? That way he can overcome the blockade. LOL
Again, I do not think he is doing anything wrong, but it is just kind of weird to me.
-
I was referring to the indication that Rep Johnson does not do any government work on his personal devices.
it is impossible to say. Forgets his government phone, iPad whatever. Has to look something up after hours............ It could happen. And it has never been said that this was only on his personal devices. Maybe on both? We don't know.
Again, I doubt he is (or has) done anything wrong. I am just kind of think it is a weird thing to do to your kid.

I kind of feel that finding this wrong says a little more about you than him.
Porn is horrible. The rampant trafficking of young women, the depression and psychological issues that lead to massive suicide and drug abuse problems, and even just the degradation and misogyny involved with it? It’s degrading to women and it’s degrading to men. The fact that he’s trying to protect his kid in what fashion he can is laudable.
Now I’m sure somebody is going to show an example of hypocrisy where an evangelical proclaimed one thing about porn but lived another. That doesn’t make the effort and attempt any less laudable. All have fallen short of the glory of God. That doesn’t mean you don’t try.

I understand having internet blockers for kids, but I think it is weird that Rep. Johnson has his son monitor the fathers internet usage. I can't imagine my mom asking me to monitor her internet usage. (Actually, that case, it would be easy as I don't think my mom has ever been on the internet).
Would you be okay having your son monitor all the internet sites you go to? Maybe it is just me. :shrug
