When asked the other day about this young man, Johnson refused to name him.

Since the guardianship papers are legal record, congrats to The Daily Mail for doxxing the man.

I don't understand why, but there it is...

You don't get any guaranteed results with your own kids. I suspect the pattern was well set with this young man before they ever met him.

Bringing this out to criticize Johnson is evil.

Something about how a genuine act of caring and sacrifice is weaponized against a politician. Fantastic.

        Education is extremely important.

I actually find this to speak highly of the Johnsons. It sounds like he was in a very bad home situation, they rescued the boy and he was on a positive track, then as a young adult he fell back in with his family and things turned to shit again.

Agreed. Occasionally you find Christians who really walk the walk.

It’s rare, but they’re out there.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

A bit off subject, but related...Several years ago, I remember an interview with a black man who had turned his life around. He was in his mid-40's, living in Northwest Louisiana. Typical blue collar, middle-class guy with a wife and a couple of kids.

He was born and raised in New Orleans. Much of his teen-age years were spent in Juvie and then he did a short stint in Angola. He said the best advice he ever got when he was incarcerated, was to walk away from his old home, his family and his old friends. About all the money he had after leaving The Farm, was enough to get him to Shreveport, where he got a construction job and had just enough money for a week's room rent.

He had started to go to church while in prison and he continued that at his new home. He worked hard. The jobs got better and paid more, as he learned more. He started dating a "good girl" from a decent family. He married. Had children. Started a small company. Stayed in church.

The one thing he didn't do, was ever go back to New Orleans. Other than his mother, he wouldn't even talk to his friends and family on the telephone. Said it was the hardest thing he ever did. Even harder than being in prison.

But his new life was too good to ever mess it up...

I think that the headline is a bit misleading, but the substance of the report is kind of weird

                https://www.businessinsider.com/mike-johnson-uses-app-alerts-family-porn-covenant-eyes-2023-11?op=1

Recently-unearthed footage shows Mike Johnson, now the Speaker of the House, promoting an app that enables "accountability" between him and his son over any porn use.

"Covenant Eyes is the software that we've been using a long time in our household," he said. The footage appears to be from an event titled "War on Technology" at Benton, Louisiana's Cypress Baptist Church, where Johnson was billed as a speaker in October 2022.

Johnson described the app as an opt-in service that "scans all the activity on your phone, or your devices, laptop, tablet, what have you. We do all of it. And then it sends a report to your accountability partner."

In this case, it's his 17-year-old son, Johnson said. "So he and I get a report of all the things that are on our phones or devices once a week. If anything objectionable comes up, your accountability partner gets an immediate notice.

                As someone commented:

“A US Congressman is allowing a 3rd Party tech company to scan ALL of his electronic devices daily and then uploading reports to his son about what he’s watching or not watching.... I mean, who else is accessing that data?” tweeted the user Receipt Maven, who first resurfaced the video.

You can let your kid wear his dick down to a nub. This man's family does not condone or believe in porn and will raise their minor children accordingly.

I think that it is more of a concern that a private non-government company is monitoring his (the congressman's) phone and all other electric devices. I think that would be a serious security issue and am surprised it is allowed.

I don't know. Would it be normal for them to do so?

Even if they are, it is "after the fact". Still seems like a security issue. I believe that Rep. Johnson is a smart guy, but this doesn't seem like a good idea. I am surprised you think it is okay.

It would certainly be illegal without a warrant.

Of course, that's not stopped FBI from doing it in the past.

I was referring to the indication that Rep Johnson does not do any government work on his personal devices.

it is impossible to say. Forgets his government phone, iPad whatever. Has to look something up after hours............ It could happen. And it has never been said that this was only on his personal devices. Maybe on both? We don't know.

Again, I doubt he is (or has) done anything wrong. I am just kind of think it is a weird thing to do to your kid.

I kind of feel that finding this wrong says a little more about you than him.

Porn is horrible. The rampant trafficking of young women, the depression and psychological issues that lead to massive suicide and drug abuse problems, and even just the degradation and misogyny involved with it? It’s degrading to women and it’s degrading to men. The fact that he’s trying to protect his kid in what fashion he can is laudable.

Now I’m sure somebody is going to show an example of hypocrisy where an evangelical proclaimed one thing about porn but lived another. That doesn’t make the effort and attempt any less laudable. All have fallen short of the glory of God. That doesn’t mean you don’t try.
