Hockey is a violent sport - almost by design.

How does something like this even happen?

    A skate to the NECK?

Adam was skating with the puck up the ice and the defender ran into another player which caused the defender to spin/crash with his foot in the air. Foot = skate = air = hits neck of other player = bleeds out quickly. Very sad. It has happened before, I thinks in the 80s or 90s, a goalie was hit in a similar way and was quickly bleeding onto the ice when the team medic (an army field paramedic vet?) quickly pinched or whatever the artery which stopped the bleeding and saved his life.

That is every hockey players nightmare. It is not common, but it happens.

Some people are saying it's not this game, so I dunno...

Here's another video that shows the hit, as well as the aftermath. Johnson falls, gets up, spurting blood. Blood on the ice, and a teammate holding pressure on the neck.

I've seen enough carotid arteries opened under controlled situations...this is catastrophic.

He lifted his skate for the foot check.

                Four feet?

Looks like the tweet's been deleted.

It happened in Great Britain where the laws regarding this are different. I've read that the police are investigating.

In the US, negligent homicide at the least.

If I kill someone with my car, that's an accident.

If I aim the car, that's something altogether different.

                      Regardless, lock him up.

Apparently he has a history of being one of the most penalized players in professional hockey.

When the first claim of it being a deliberate attack/move came out, hockey players on Reddit quickly denounced that idea citing the number of hit/double hits that can cause the leg to fly up. However I haven’t looked more into the player’s history, but for now I chalked it up to a bad accidental collision.

Reports I’ve seen from people who were there seem to indicate actual witnesses thought it was an accident.

                          I was only joking
