This thread might not take off, but . . . the song Radar Love has always stood out for me because the arrangement is so bad for such a boss song. The only good thing about this song IMO is the haste, the sense of urgency, that's conveyed. That is perfect. Everything else is sucky. Really disliked how the Golden Earrings handled it -- as much sex appeal as a Mini Cooper. And the lyrics could use some work.

Would love to hear somebody like a young Bob Seger do it, or maybe Springsteen, even though it' s not really his cuppa. (Is it?)

          OK, all of you.
Cats is asking a legit question.
If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.
Well, I guess technically she is not asking a question per se.
Amazing. "Radar Love" is my most favorite song ever. Really.

Radar Love is the most complete song written and performed during that decade. From the horn section to the bass... Perfection.

Yeah, but the singing is so flat! Or the singer is trying to convey emotion and just doesn't. At least to me.

That's what is so frustrating. I want to love it, and I would if the vocal was more suited to the sound and the theme.

But what do I know? I am as musically illiterate as you can get.

The drums really pulled it together.tight... The only part I could say was a little off were the backing vocals on the chorus with the falsetto vibrato, but even that works in it’s own way.

And when was Springsteen ever acclaimed for being on pitch?

But the original has a "rawness" that the remake lacks. The remake sounds sanitized and just a bit "cleaner." That's not better of course. It just sounds processed. No, dare I say, "soul."

The remake uses the sounds of motorcycles to build tension. And that sound doesn't come in subtle, it stomps on you. In the original the tension builds purely from the bass line, which the player purposely introduces it as if it came in from out of nowhere. You "feel" the driving of the car trying to get where youre going purely from the music, not from engines.

The main flaw in the original in my mind is male background vocals in the chorus. They could have been better. Other than that, a very creative piece of work.

Just listen to the drum break before the bridge. The original tasteful, musical, and even reminiscent of a Gene Krupa. The remake was just trying to show off. Plus no horn section, and no low harmonies on that middle section....

I was going to use the word raw, too. Glad to see you picked up on the same thing.

I know nothing about drumming, but is the way the drummer in the first video holding the drumsticks the normal way. Look at the 25 seconds mark.

It looks weird, and I am not sure why. Almost like he is holding a pencil with his left hand. LOL

Hey Larry, are you still in the business?

Do you happen to know how royalties are determined for a cover song? I assume it's whatever it's worth to the cover band, but wonder if there is a percentage involved for how many copies are sold.
But there are no copies, it's all internet. hmmm. I guess that's why I'm asking the question.

I am a little. Mostly I've retired from it. As for the royalties, I never got too involved with that.. but there are several types of royalties involved. Each one would have to be hammered out by 5 or 6 sets of attorneys representing the various interests involved, and that's going to be different in most every situation.

Now - the joke we used to tell the various attornies... why do lawyers wear neckties... so their foreskin won't creep up and choke them to death....

I got the feeling that the group Whitesnake didn't even understand the song's storyline, or for that matter, the music.
