The Washington Redskins said Friday they would conduct a “thorough review” of its name and consider possibly changing it over racial connotations.
While fans floated ideas about what the name could be, Redskins quarterback Dwayne Haskins promoted his own favorite name out of the dozens that were mentioned on social media.
“I like the redtails,” Haskins tweeted.
He then clarified: “That’s if we have to change the name. Now out my mentions.”
Many people who floated the nickname Red Tails have said the team should use it to honor the Tuskegee Airmen. The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of African-American and Caribbean-born fighter pilots who were a part of the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African-American military pilots in the U.S. Armed Forces. Their nicknames were the Red Tails.
The Redskins released a statement on their name change Friday.“In light of recent events around our country and feedback from our community, the Washington Redskins are announcing the team will undergo a thorough review of the team’s name. The review formalizes the initial discussions the team has been having with the league in recent events."
Team owner Daniel Snyder also commented on the issue.
“This process allows the team to take into account not only the proud tradition and history of the franchise but also input from our alumni, the organization, sponsors, the National Football League and the local community it is proud to represent on and off the field.”
The franchise came under scrutiny last week as it was revealed the team is reportedly barred from seeking a move from FedEx Field in Maryland to RFK Stadium in Washington unless the team changes its name.

Right now, Redskins is not the biggest slur in their name. Washington is. Their city was named after a slave owner that while fighting to free one group of people chose to keep another in bondage. Yes, he expressed distaste for the practice, but never released his own slaves because of the financial ramifications. He didn't want to have to pay labor. Cheap bastard. This sick and evil man is should not be honored by having a city and team named after him.
I propose they change the name to the Black Lives Matter Redskins.

I have a dream, that one day a guy From CNN will accost a black Redskin player coming out of the locker room and stick out his mike and say, Mr. Whosis, can I ask you your opinion of what's going on right now across the country with the protesters? And the player saying pleasantly, "I don't actually give a shit."

Saying all swans matter at this time would be like if after 9/11 you said all buildings matter. Except if the WTC was filled with black swans, and also all those planes were filled with swans, and the other buildings were filled with swans, and also if George Floyd was a black swan, and the cop who killed him was a white swan.

Swans lack the body mass to compress a swan neck by kneeling on it, since swan necks are well understood to be both large and very muscular. The comparison is thus unscientific and probably also racist.

I think the justification was that if you allowed the hunting of animals that wander about as though they own the freaking place, making this dreadful trumpeting noise, then the bloodshed would never end.
I'm not sure why it's illegal to kill swans.
