Hey Aqua - Baldur's Gate3

It's basically Solasta graphics with Divinity II game mechanics.
But yeah it's ridiculous. My boss's boss's boss and I had a weird conversation about it. Apparently he's a closet D&D nerd and plays a lot.

3 out of 4 of my family members have sunk a shit-ton of time into it. My daughter's gone to college so she's had to stop, but she actually phones me up to discuss it.
I'm kind of hoping to talk Mrs. Phibes into getting into it, so we can play 4-person co-op.
The flexibility in all the story trees as well as the combat is amazing. In the event that I actually manage to finish it, I'm already planning my next team.

What class(es) did you pick?

Paladin for my first run through, as it's a good all rounder, and the game is really freaking hard at the beginning, at least it seemed so at the time.
I may attempt a run through with four rogues next just to see how it works - I can have a thief, a trickster and an assassin sub-class, as well as Astarion the gay vampire. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course.

As chance would have it, I’m getting a new gaming desktop this week. My 6 year old one no longer boots. Maybe I will play this.

If I had a Mac, it wouldn’t have broke.

If you have a gaming Mac you’re not exactly likely to wear it out

Posting this from my new gaming rig. I went peak lazy and rather than doing any research whatsoever, I just purchased each component from Tom's Hardware most recent $2k build. I added one more 2 TB ssd. BG3 takes up .15 TB, so 2 seems small. Borrowed a Windows 11 key from my work microsoft subscription.
Pro tip: don't forget the motherboard has TWO power connections. If you miss the small one, the motherboard won't boot and you'll receive no hints about what you did wrong. You may end up disassembling everything to return the board, only to notice the unconnected power slot at the last second.

Cool - hard drive space is definitely becoming more important, and we're reaching the point where it really has to be a fast SSD, so that upgrade looks good. I didn't build my own, but bought from MicroCenter and then added a second nvme drive. It's a couple of years old now but still runs modern games well.

I know I'm in the middle of kid chaos (5, 2, and newborn) but I have NO IDEA how any of you dudes have time for video games. Although, I think I answered my question. I maybe watch 30 minutes of a movie each night LOL, if I'm lucky.

That's exactly where we were when we met you in Boston. Now they're 22 and 19, and we have free time and everything.

If I don't become a concert pianist someday, it'll be because I spent too much time playing computer games.

"I don't have the time" = "It's not a priority."
Video games aren't a priority for me at all, but mental health breaks absolutely are.
My parents' basic strategy was put their head down, get shit done and place putting time for yourself dead last. Which worked out pretty well in terms of a clean house and updating our cable TV subscriptions, but every now and again these silly little things would crop up, like trashing my school biology project because they were tired of seeing it. Whoops! And who can forget the occasional calling the police on me for not, well, whatever, and officers instructing me to pretend I got bitched out just to make my drunk mother happy enough to make it through another 24 hours. Because hey, I'm the reason they had to sacrifice so much of their lives and isn't that such a drag sometimes!
I'm not doing that shit. So, imperfect system though it may be, what I've found is that if I carve out regular time for myself, I don't get burnt out. I can be present with my family, with the work bullshit, and with life's administrivia. I make sure these hours are most convenient for everyone else, so usually that means early mornings, but sometimes it means late nights.
Mostly I work on projects and I make them important. Usually it's photography. In the past 10 years, I don't know how many photos I've taken but I've saved about 20,000. I make zines and shit and share them with other photography folks online. But when the weather's just unbearable or I'm under the weather, I play video games. I started BG3 when it came out and only the first part was released, but stopped because I want to get through my Pathfinder and Solasta games first.

Good stuff man. You’re doing it right.
I know that was a way over-detailed explanation.
But I think about this a lot. Decades of incredibly dumb shit could've been avoided if my folks had simply just volunteered or something. Really want to avoid that myself.
