The bridge was “unmarked” and “unbarricaded,” the lawsuit says.

Then it would seem to me that they are already barking up the wrong tree.

@LuFins-Dad said in Google Maps sued for leading a man to driving off a collapsed bridge:

The bridge was “unmarked” and “unbarricaded,” the lawsuit says.

Then it would seem to me that they are already barking up the wrong tree.

Not only that, but google gets road closure data from local departments of transportation and municipalities, so it seems a lawsuit might be better directed at their local government, presuming there was a breach of reporting the bridge closed appropriately.

It's also a really small bridge. This is it before it was washed out:

The Kennedy's will be watching this one with interest, I'm sure.

Sorry, didn't mean to make light of it - it seems like the town have some major explaining to do if it wasn't clearly marked.

      I was only joking

Actually the above images might not be of the bridge. Not sure, this is a snow creek bridge in hickory that washed out in 2019, but the lawsuit refers to one washed out in 2013, so who knows.

Anyway, it sucks but I don't blame google any more than I'd blame google for not telling me there is a broken down vehicle in the right lane ahead. You can certainly blame the local government if they have a bridge that is not barricaded, not illuminated at night, and no warning signs. Although I doubt that is the case if it's been this way for 10 years without anyone getting hurt.

Actually, Google and Waze have warnings and such about always watching the roads, information may not be completely accurate, and such… I believe there have been lawsuits dismissed before where MAPS might have been even more responsible…

Certainly looks that way to me, that's why I quoted that sentence.

There is one place where Siri tells me to go through this light, then turn right at the next.

She tells me to go through the light, no matter what color it is. She doesn't know about colors.

When she says that I really want to go through the red light.

@Copper When I first got a smartphone and was using Google Maps to go to a school in DC, there was some type of utility work that had every single left turn off of 34th ST NW shut down. So I'm driving up 34th St and the damn phone just keeps saying "Turn Left on O St....Turn Left on P St... Turn Left on Volta... Turn Left on Q..." I swear the phone voice started getting louder and angrier every time I didn't turn.

Driving in rural Somerset in the UK was a hoot. The maps took us down this tiny country lane and then told us to turn left into a farmer's field straight through a five bar gate. When we finally found the bed and breakfast somebody said 'Oh, you didn't try using Maps did you....?'

Seems like it is pretty standard in the US to sue everybody who has even had any possible connection to the "case".
