Russell Brand, Come on down!
-
I am not ashamed to admit that I pray to Russell Brand as my God Emperor. I asked permission from Donald Trump to change holy allegiances, and was granted His permission.
I'm sorry if my worldview seems "strange" or "out there" to you normies - but I make no apologies.

Just don't start wearing skinny jeans. It's not a good look on men your age. Or any age.

Chalk this up to another news story that has ZERO impact on our lives.
That's what they said about the #MeToo, and that turned the office world upside down for a couple of years, with a few echoes even today.
Sometimes, you just don't know...

I think there's potentially some repercussions for the broadcasting companies who appeared to allow this to happen.

Until this thread and the news headlines I had no idea who this Brand guy was.
Still don’t.

Yep.
You don't get social brownie points for being out of touch with your own culture.

Me neither.
I did read an article about his background, etc. I was obviously confusing him with someone else, as I thought he was a "serious" movie actor.
EDIT: I guess I was thinking about Russel Crow.

https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2023/sep/19/youtube-suspends-russell-brand-revenues-channel
YouTube has suspended Russell Brand’s ability to earn money on the platform following allegations of rape and sexual assault in a massive hit to his finances.
The video-sharing and social media site said it had suspended Brand’s channel from the YouTube partner programme after serious allegations against him, meaning his videos are no longer able to be monetised on the platform.
A spokesperson for YouTube said: “We have suspended monetisation on Russell Brand’s channel for violating our creator responsibility policy. If a creator’s off-platform behaviour harms our users, employees or ecosystem, we take action to protect the community.”
Industry experts have estimated Brand probably makes between £2,000 to £4,000 a video, which,, based on five videos a week, could produce close to £1m a year.
YouTube’s creator responsibility guidelines state that “if a creator’s off-platform behaviour harms users, employees, or ecosystem, the platform may take action to protect its community, including by suspending monetisation.
“When a creator is suspended from the YouTube partner programme, they are prohibited from using a new or alternate channel to circumvent our enforcement decision.”

He was a fairly big name in the UK, and there was a big scandal about him in 2008 where he phoned up the actor Andrew Sachs and left a message on-air that he'd been sleeping with his granddaughter. He ended up with him getting fired by the BBC, as did some BBC managers. I didn't think many Americans knew much about him either until this happened. He's pretty sleazy IMHO, and like many celebs seems to think he's a lot cleverer than the evidence would suggest.

I don't doubt that he has some extraordinary mental horsepower, at least when it comes to weaving a ton of words together on the fly. But lots of people think he's an incoherent crazy person.

He was, when he was coked up and kicking. He's also an extremely good writer, occasionally weird subject matter notwithstanding.

Megyn Kelly commented that the accusations against Brand seem pretty credible, particularly the contemporaneous visit to an ER after the alleged assault and a rape kit being taken.
But...that's for courts to decide.

They seem so. But due process is due him like anyone else.

I’m not clear when a company like YouTube becomes ethically free to monetize a criminal’s videos. I don’t think anybody is clear about that. Actually some deep thinking about ethics is probably never involved to begin with. We appear to be fine with letting people into society even after they’ve been convicted and punished. Most areas of society at least.

Did somebody hack Jolly? It was originally a Gutfeld program, but it's been replaced by something even weirder...
