From the rape crisis center girl:
(NYPost)
The woman later told Brand that she had been scared and felt taken advantage of, telling him, “When a girl [says] NO, it means no” — to which he responded he was “very sorry,” text messages cited by the report show.
He’s done.

I'm with Jon. I know nothing about him other than the name.
Oh, also TuCa interviewed him, so there's that.

I was impressed by him as an actor / comedian before he became famous as a cultural commentator in Podcastistan. Sam Harris was on his show just last week. As for his cultural stuff, as usual for counter-culture sorts, the only time I hear about them, is when mainstreamers sneer at them. I guess there's an ecosystem there that the sneering class unwittingly participates in. It is reasonable to wonder whether motivation to take him down exist largely because he is counter-culture. But if he did the crimes, so be it. There's no rule against harvesting victims for political usefulness. Christine Blasey Ford smiled. Though she is sneered at by real victims who were harvested for political gain. There's a hierarchy amongst politically useful victims, and fake victims are not well respected.

I thought he was quite funny as a comedian. I haven't watched all his "serious" stuff. I watched about 5 minutes of some show which seemed to be him telling us the real truth they don't want us to hear, got a bit bored and irritated and went back to music podcasts.

Regarding his conspiracy theory/ social commentary stuff, one of his alleged victims said,
- I think he was building himself an audience for years that would then have great distrust of any publication that came forward with allegations. He knew it was coming for a long time.
This would imply a horrendous degree of cynicism on his part, but isn't actually the most unlikely thing I've ever read.

The L.A. incident may be pretty serious and might have legal traction.
Regardless, I'm still troubled by ten to almost twenty year old allegations, no matter who is involved.

Chalk this up to another news story that has ZERO impact on our lives.

Donald Trump Jnr. has come out in support of Brand if that helps make it more relevant to your life. He will be President soon.
- The former first son posted a meme to his 6.5 million followers on Instagram from the “Censored Men” Twitter account which compared Brand to Julian Assange, Andrew Tate and his father Donald Trump along with the words: “Notice a pattern?”.
Yeah, I've noticed a pattern. They're all narcissistic assholes.
Good God almighty, imagine coming out in defence of Andrew Tate.

I am not ashamed to admit that I pray to Russell Brand as my God Emperor. I asked permission from Donald Trump to change holy allegiances, and was granted His permission.
I'm sorry if my worldview seems "strange" or "out there" to you normies - but I make no apologies.

Just don't start wearing skinny jeans. It's not a good look on men your age. Or any age.

That's what they said about the #MeToo, and that turned the office world upside down for a couple of years, with a few echoes even today.
Sometimes, you just don't know...

I think there's potentially some repercussions for the broadcasting companies who appeared to allow this to happen.

Yep.
You don't get social brownie points for being out of touch with your own culture.

Me neither.
I did read an article about his background, etc. I was obviously confusing him with someone else, as I thought he was a "serious" movie actor.
EDIT: I guess I was thinking about Russel Crow.

https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2023/sep/19/youtube-suspends-russell-brand-revenues-channel
YouTube has suspended Russell Brand’s ability to earn money on the platform following allegations of rape and sexual assault in a massive hit to his finances.
The video-sharing and social media site said it had suspended Brand’s channel from the YouTube partner programme after serious allegations against him, meaning his videos are no longer able to be monetised on the platform.
A spokesperson for YouTube said: “We have suspended monetisation on Russell Brand’s channel for violating our creator responsibility policy. If a creator’s off-platform behaviour harms our users, employees or ecosystem, we take action to protect the community.”
Industry experts have estimated Brand probably makes between £2,000 to £4,000 a video, which,, based on five videos a week, could produce close to £1m a year.
YouTube’s creator responsibility guidelines state that “if a creator’s off-platform behaviour harms users, employees, or ecosystem, the platform may take action to protect its community, including by suspending monetisation.
“When a creator is suspended from the YouTube partner programme, they are prohibited from using a new or alternate channel to circumvent our enforcement decision.”

He was a fairly big name in the UK, and there was a big scandal about him in 2008 where he phoned up the actor Andrew Sachs and left a message on-air that he'd been sleeping with his granddaughter. He ended up with him getting fired by the BBC, as did some BBC managers. I didn't think many Americans knew much about him either until this happened. He's pretty sleazy IMHO, and like many celebs seems to think he's a lot cleverer than the evidence would suggest.
