I thought we weren’t allowed to watch actors of one race play characters of another? Especially actual historical figures?

I really like musicals. Maybe I was born about 30 or 40 years too late, past the "golden" musical age.

In fact, I just received a couple of days ago a recommendation from Amazon to buy a 5 DVD set of the Golden Age of Musicals for only USD$12!!!

I believe the skin color has been approved for general audiences

Mik is on point. This musical is different. The next generation is firmly in place. Hamilton is brilliant, although I did find The Book of Mormon more entertaining.

          Hamilton is a must see.

Hamilton is a must-see as soon as Sir Gawain becomes a must-read.

Miranda might be our only hope. Instead of destroying all the statues, we might be able to sneak by just by giving them wider noses.

You should see Aida or Turandot. 45 minute intermissions, two apiece.

Rutgers University professor Lyra Monteiro criticized the show's multi-ethnic casting as obscuring a complete lack of identifiable enslaved or free persons of color as characters in the show.[186] Monteiro identified other commentators, such as Ishmael Reed, who criticized the show for making Hamilton and other historical personages appear more progressive on racial injustice than they really were.[186] According to Reed, "[Hamilton's] reputation has been shored up as an abolitionist and someone who was opposed to slavery," which Reed stated was untrue.

I'm very happy that Sondheim's (whom I love dearly) Company (which I also love dearly) has a faster song.

@Catseye3 Hamilton has come under fire. You see, despite being an abolitionist, he did support and befriend others that were slave owners. Even befriended a few, so he must be torn down.

The meme generally is designed to make fun of ideological contradictions of the subject. In this case the subject is woke lefties who both want to get rid of founding fathers statues and love Hamilton the musical as a celebration of immigrants.
