@blondie said in Pediatric Cardiologist leaves Louisiana over anti-LGBTQ legislation:

want to hear his views concerning puberty blockers, gender altering surgery, hormones, psych treatments/meds, etc. for adolescents.

Yeah, that probably wasn't covered during his fellowship, and, more to your point, castration, mastectomies, testosterone, etc (I mean, let's call them what they are, right?) weren't covered during his residency 10 years ago.

Want to bet? This shit didn’t come out of nowhere and the wide swing on the subject began about 12 years ago. With his specialty being in pediatrics, my guess is that “gender affirmative care” was most definitely included in the curriculum.

        You might be right.

I did my peds rotation a long, long time ago.

Guess which word was never said?

Seems logical. But calling these procedures gender affirming health care is like describing lethal injection as anesthesia.

Even ignoring the abomination of medical GAC, Social Transition is horrific and unquestionably what needs to be addressed.

The fact is this doctor (sheltered somewhat within the confines of his transplant specialty) knows how hormone therapy screws with the human body. He’s also young enough to have read something of estrogen, steroids, of long term use, links to disorders, and the mess ups having kids cycle through multiple psych meds over time. He’s in a pediatric hospital where nowadays adolescents are dropping dead of suicide at a higher rate than ever before.
I know a few gay people (medical and non-medical) who state there’s no god damn way they’d be putting that shit (hormones) into their own kids’ bodies … and screw the psych people & social workers because, yeah, in the end, the parents who do buy the medications.

See, there’s one of the most frustrating thing to me. We KNOW that the Dutch “studies” that showed Trans that transitioned are less likely to commit suicide were complete bullshit surveys, and are full of holes to boot. We also know that Social Transition DOES lead to more depression and other problems at significantly higher rates, which then is used as an excuse to medical measures, pointing back to the BS Dutch studies…

At the end of the day, Trans numbers have skyrocketed over the last decade. Teen suicide have skyrocketed over the last decade (and don’t point at COVID, the trend was there well before COVID). I don’t think those two are coincidence.

Ya know, thinking of all the gay people I know (btw, quite a few), most distance themselves from trans, queer, other rainbow-type issues. No one I know attended the Pride parades this weekend in YYC. As one said, “Why be a target?” (The drag and trans news over the past year drew hate in YYC).

@LuFins-Dad I think adolescents today are way more triggered by their own anxieties and fears and plummet towards psych maladies way sooner. Jmo, they lack the coping skills, the resilience of GenX’rs and boomers.

@George They’re increasingly being taught, mentored by a different, younger generation too … a generation who perhaps were less independent than boomers, genX’rs ….

What do you count as hate? This guy is considered to be the epitome of anti-trans hate for saying “Children Can’t Consent to Puberty Blockers”, “All Children Are Beautiful Just As They Are”, and “Two Genders, Infinite Personalities”.

@George-K .. think of your own medical training .. and what I when through as a student .. The students today do far less hard time learning than those prior to say, 1995. These kids have issues with everything, personally, professionally, academically, and they are going to be giving care to others, as “professionals” ?

@LuFins-Dad the hate I refer to are the comments in our local media, to our city council concerning drag story time readings & drag performance dancing at public libraries, and of peaceful (yes, silent) protesters who tend to set up loud speakers with music outside public venues impeding pedestrians disrupting car traffic.

When I was younger, I had a friend who really wanted breast reduction surgery. Her mom said no. She was to make that decision for herself when she was out of university and could pay for it herself. With all the education and experience I had as a pediatric nurse, I continue to say, that no one under the age of 18 can comprehend to weigh the short and long risks associated with consent to a major surgery such as a mastectomy. Their minds just aren’t mature enough … they haven’t gained critical thinking skills in this regard. From what I read (maybe linked from this forum?), there are young adults dealing with issues like lymphedema; some are having to void sitting down; some can’t empty their bladders fully. Long term their lives are permanently screwed because of decisions made with pre-adult reasoning. And there are psychiatrists, psychologists, pediatricians, social workers, teachers encouraging & supporting these things??? These professionals are so wrong imo. But I’m an aging boomer.
