I admit to ignorance about the Amish. Closest thing we have are Mennonites, and not too many of them.

I went to school with quite a few mennonite kids. Polite, law-abiding and conscientious students, all of 'em. One of them was valedictorian. (Suffice to say my derelict ass didn't make close friends with too many, but looking back on it they were very good people.) The Amish kids I believe were all home schooled.
Growing up, you had to pass through about 3 Amish communities just to get to our road, which was past the county maintenance line. If the school bus got behind a buggy at the wrong place, it meant a later arrival and much less time for early morning chit-chat.
They ran the tables at the farmer's markets, and their stores always had incredible pies, bread and quilts.
They seem different from the Florida Amish communities. I'm not entirely convinced the latter group aren't just Amish to pull off some sort of tax dodge.

It is interesting that I believe the Amish won a supreme court vote that allows them to stop schooling their kids at the end of 8th grade.
If there a big enough community of Amish, they will send them to a one-room school house, like this one in north Ohio. There are about 325 Amish Parochial Schools, with about 9,500 students.

Yes, thank you, I know that. The kids I grew up around had the option to go to this one, which I passed every drive we took into town. My dad taught astronomy there.
A lot of Amish families still opted for homeschooling. My dad went there on occasion, too, if the parents reached out.

@Aqua-Letifer Very cool that your Dad was well thought of to be asked to do that.

Eh, it was his job. He taught everybody. And he often said the Amish and Mennonite kids were about ten times better behaved than the miscreants he taught in public school.

You'd get along with them, I think. They are extremely hard working and very knowledgeable about their tradecrafts. If the SHTF, I'm calling Jolly or the Amish to help me build a house in the woods.
